WATKINS, Betty Barker, 78, of Plant City, passed away July 10, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Watkins. She is survived by her son, Aldo Watkins; two daughters, Kathrine Holton and Joyce Mabee; one brother, Robert Barker, and his wife, Jeanette; one sister, Jean Weaver; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her niece, Jean Ann Davenport, and her husband, David; and her nephew, Curt Weaver. Mrs. Watkins taught for the Hillsborough County school system for 37 years. She was the first elected female official of the Hillsborough County government. She was a former commissioner for the City of Plant City. She was also a member of many organizations throughout the state of Florida. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, at First United Methodist Church of Plant City with the Rev. Tommy Warnock officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
