DAVIS, BETTY L., 83, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2005. She was ushered into the presence of the Lord by the reading of psalms and singing of hymns by her daughter and three very close friends. Born March 2, 1922 in Burlington, Iowa, Betty grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she attended Shortridge High School and Butler University. She was married for 58 wonderful years to Howard W. Davis, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2002. While living in Carmel, Indiana, Betty was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and taught reading for Carmel Clay Schools. Betty retired in 1982 and moved to Brooksville, Florida, where she was an active member of Spring Hill United Church of Christ. She moved to Homestead, Florida in 1993 where she was a member of Redlands Community Church and active in the women's Bible study. Betty was a vibrant woman, full of life and energy. An avid sports fan, she could quote you any Marlins player's ERA or Home Run record up to her last days on this earth. Betty loved to read and swim, and had an amazing capacity for love as well as a wonderful sense of humor. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Betty is survived by her son, Dr. Howard W. Davis, Jr., Green Bay, Wisconsin; her daughter, Ann E. Freeman of Homestead, Florida; her grandsons, Richard A. Davis, Jr., Adam Davis, Erik Davis and Chad Davis; and great granddaughters, Jessica Davis and Hope Davis. In addition to her husband, Betty is also preceded in death by her son, Richard A. Davis, Sr. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.herald.com/obituaries.
