JOHNSON, BETTY GUILDERLAND - Betty Peterson Johnson, 96, died early Monday, January 16, 2012 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 27, 1915 in Hornell, N.Y. to Carl D. and Anna M. Peterson. Betty was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late George L. Johnson; beloved mother of Denise M. Polsinelli and her husband Frederico, of Guilderland, N.Y. and George F. Johnson of Atlanta, GA . She was a loving grandmother of seven grandchildren, Frederico Jr., Michael, Alisha and Nicholas Polsinelli; Melissa, Mark and Molly Johnson. Betty was truly a remarkable woman in every aspect of life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Betty was undoubtedly a true "social butterfly", cultivating many joyous friendships over her 96 year life. She was a member of the Troy Country Club for over 55 years as well as an active member of the Guilderland Needlecraft Group, which she attended on a weekly basis to spend time with her beloved friends and create true works of art. Up to the week of her passing she knitted blankets, hats and scarves. Her memorable gifts were donated to those who needed them the most, including local nursing homes and children's hospitals. This is one of many examples of the selfless life she had lived. Betty had true appreciation for life in general and recognized the beauty in everything, especially nature and the surroundings in which she lived. Bird watching and listening to their songs brought endless joy to her days. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff at Ellis Hospital, for the wonderful care and support of Betty. Calling hours will be held this Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 pm at Guilderland's, DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike (across from the Guilderland Town Hall). Funeral services will begin Thursday, 9:15am at the funeral home, followed at 10am by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Madeleine Sophie, 3500 Carman Road, Guilderland, N.Y. Betty's interment will take place in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, N.Y.
