Betty Davis, 85, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, with her family by her side, on Thursday, March 16, 2012.Betty Davis was born on March 12, 1927 in Iaeger, West Virginia. She was married to the late Gerald Devoy Davis on May 4, 1945. She was a member of Living Word Baptist Church.Betty was known to everyone as "Maw Maw". She was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was also known as the "Dessert Queen." Her two most requested cakes were her Strawberry Cloud and NY style Cheesecake. She loved to work in her yard and cook. She loved to help others in any way possible, which included building houses or churches, sewing, painting and cooking. Her biggest passion was cooking, whether for her family, a family in need or a large church congregation; you could always find her in the kitchen. She also ministered to people by cooking, talking or listening. She helped many people become better persons and Christians. At the end of every conversation, she would say, "Love you," as she cared for everyone. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.She was active in each church she attended, including Winters Chapel Baptist, North Peachtree Baptist, Church of the Nation, Bethlehem First Baptist and Living Word Baptist. She was a founding member of both Winters Chapel and North Peachtree Baptist and helped to build both churches.She is survived by her four children; Brenda King (Clifford), of Savannah; Randall Davis (Donna), of Loganville; Chris Davis (Teresa), of Athens; and Kelly Davis (Cindy), of Suwanee; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Lackey, of Lawrenceville, and one sister-in-law, Hallie Osborne, of Alpharetta.The family will take visitors from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Bernstein Funeral Home on Atlanta Highway. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Bethlehem First Baptist Church, 548 Christmas Ave., Bethlehem. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park on Atlanta Highway in Athens.In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Living Word Baptist Church Buildings and Ground Committee; 2761 Monroe Highway, Bogart, GA 30622 and St. Mary's Hospice House; 1660 Jennings Mill Rd, Bogart, GA 30622.Online condolences may be made at www.bernsteinfuneralhome.comBernstein Funeral Home and Cremation Service are in charge of arrangements.
