LAKELAND -- Mrs. Betty Jean Davis of Lakeland worked at Padgett Elementary School and enjoyed volunteering her time, her family said.Mrs. Davis died of cancer Saturday (April 17, 2004) at her home. She was 68.Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Pitts, Ga., she came here from Valdosta, Ga., in 1955.For 15 years, Mrs. Davis worked as a lunchroom technician at Padgett Elementary. Her husband of 49 years, Lewis H. Davis, said she enjoyed cooking food and feeding children."She was very friendly," he said.A member of Merry Hearts, Mrs. Davis would travel to different nursing homes and entertain residents by performing skits."She loved helping people," her husband said. "They had a ball doing that."Mrs. Davis was a member of Carpenter's Home Church.In addition to her husband, Lewis, Mrs. Davis is survived by her sons, Stanley Davis, Hillsboro, Ore., Richard K. Davis, Lakeland; brother, Arthur Parrott, Effingham, Ill.; sisters, Frances Simms, Murryville, Ga., Ruth Williams, Lakeland; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Morrison Southside Chapel. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
