WILSON Ben P. Wilson, 83, born May 26, 1926 in Decatur, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2010. He was known as Ben, Daddy, Grandpa, Granddaddy, and of his most liking, Great Grandpapapa. Ben came to Jacksonville, Florida in 1944 during his service with the Navy. He worked for Southern Bell until his retirement on December 16, 1982. Ben enjoyed working in real estate, playing on the golf course, and just keeping busy. Ben was a very dedicated and caring person of Christ. He spent many long hours giving to the churches he was a member of. He was instrumental in maintaining the congregation of St. James Lutheran Church. Most recently he gave of his talents to the building and the transition to Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. His legacy to God and his Christian faith will live on forever. Ben was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Clyde Wilson and his great grandson, Ben Cosmo Roberts. Ben is survived by his loving wife, Maxine J. Wilson, of 63 years. He is also survived by his brother, George Newton Wilson; and sister, Mary Edd Atkinson; his children, Carol Payne (Tommy), Michael Wilson (Peggy Ann), and Tracy Wilson; his grandchildren, Stan Raley (Leslie), Julie Hudson (Scott), Allie Gass (Michael), Shad Wilson, Amy Roberts (Mark), and Lindsey Wilson; and his great grandchildren, Shelby Hudson, Abbie Gass, and Lydia Gass. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. The family will celebrate Ben's life on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:00 am at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church, 2636 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32226 officiated by Pastor Ellen Cross. Pallbearers will included Michael Gass, Scott Hudson, Bob Masculine, Stan Raley, Mark Roberts, and Shad Wilson. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the interment service.
