COLEBROOK -- Barbara M. Johnston, 84, of Colebrook died Jan. 19, 2010, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Canaan, Vt., to Claude Heath and Arlene (Dwinell) Heath. She attended school in Canaan and began working many different jobs. Ultimately, she worked at the Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen, and later for the Stratford Plywood Mill until the mill closed. She loved music and enjoyed singing with her mother and her sisters. She was a member of the American Legion Post 47 Auxiliary in Canaan, Vt. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Belanger. Family members include her daughter, Dianna Purrington of Colebrook; her companion of the last 26 years, Sherman Shatney, of West Stewartstown; two brothers, Claude Heath of Harrison, Maine and Guy Heath of Florida; three sisters, Bertha Roberson and Claudette Whetherby, both of Springfield, Mass., and Claudia Dustin of Colebrook; two grandsons, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. SERVICES: There are no calling hours or services at this time. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Colebrook Village Cemetery.
