AUGUSTA -- Barbara Jackson-Sproul, 90, of Parkwood Drive, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born April 30, 1920, in Brookline, Mass., the daughter of Benjamin F. and Florence M. (Thompson) Walker. Barbara graduated from Miss Michaud's Secretarial School in Boston and worked in Boston before she was married in 1942. She was a proud homemaker and caregiver for 66 years and enjoyed hostessing parties for her friends. She loved to travel and was fortunate to travel to the Philippines, Europe, Bermuda, Jamaica, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada, as well as recent trips to Navy squadron reunions all over the United States. Barbara loved animals, especially her most recent cat, "Ming." She raised and showed pure-bred Weimaraners in American Kennel Club dog shows across the United States. She had a passion for the Orient and collected many Oriental artifacts. Barbara had lived in Augusta, Springfield, Va., V.A. in Togus, where her husband was the director from 1971-1975, Manchester, Marietta, Ga.; and returned to Augusta in 1985.Barbara was predeceased by her parents; two brothers Marshall Walker and Daniel Walker; her first husband, John J. Jackson, of 52 years; her two daughters, Deborah Ann Jackson and Dayle Barbara Jackson (Jacobson); and two granddaughters Julie Jacobson and Christie Jacobson. She is survived by her husband, Stanley E. Sproul, whom she married June 1, 1996; her granddaughter, Jennifer Jacobson Queen and her husband, Jason; one great-grandson, Isaac Queen, all from Durham; her former son-in-law, James L. Jacobson and his wife Patricia from Woodstock, Ga.; her nephew, Daniel Walker and family; her stepchildren: Edward Sproul and his wife Elizabeth; Cynthia Sproul (Gallant); Roger Sproul; Donald Sproul and his wife, Kathleen and Linda S. Small; her stepgrandchildren: Laura Gallant Lewis and family; Brian Sproul and family; Ryan Gallant and family; Catherine S. Rhodes and family; Stephanie, Sarah, Lydia, and Rebecca Sproul: Bethany Sproul; Jason Fuller and family; Melanie Fuller Lajoie and family; and Adam Small.At Barbara's request, memorial services for the family will be private.
