Bryan James O'Neill died peacefully on November 29, 2008. Bryan was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 19, 1921 to Michael and Helena (Boyle) O'Neill. He attended local schools, enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. Bryan married Agnes Becker on September 29, 1940 at St. Theresa's Church in Brooklyn, New York. They had four cherished sons Bryan (Gloria), James (Angelina), Joseph and Robert (Susan). Their precious infant daughter, Agnes, died shortly after her birth in 1954. Bryan became a member of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workes Local 40 of New York City in 1953 where he worked for thirty-one years.Bryan was proud of his part in the role he played on the New York City bridges and structure improving the safety and quality of life for so many travelers. Bryan and Agnes moved from Laurelton, Queens to Wesley Hills, NY in 1968. They were parishioners at St. Boniface Church and made many lifelong friends. Bryan was a member of the Pearl River Elks and the American Legion. Following Agnes' death in 1984, Bryan became a member of the St. Anthony's (Nanuet) Widow and Widowers Club where he met Josephine Panza. They married in October 1990 and made their home in Toms River, New Jersey until Josephine's death in December 1998. While a resident of Tom's River, Bryan was a parishioner of Maximilian Kolbe Church and a chapter member of the Deborah Hospital Foundation. Bryan remained in Toms River until October of this year when he became a resident of Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, New York. Bryan took great pleasure in his grandchildren (Regina, James, Christopher, Steven, Robert, Ann Marie, Angela, Katherine) and was especially proud that he recently became a great-grandfather to Tristan. Bryan was very fond of his stepchildren, Patricia Williams, Paul Panza, and Jean Matteo and their children Michael, Danielle, Joseph, and Stephanie. Bryan touched many lives with his gentle manner and kind heart. He will be fondly remembered by all as a warm and caring gentleman. Bryan was an avid reader and could converse on many different subjects. He had a great interest in World History and his Irish ancestry. The oldest of seven children, Bryan is survived by his siblings Mary, Agnes, Carmel, Patricia, and Neil. He also leaves behind his dear friend, Mary Jockel. He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy. Family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 2-4 to 7-9 PM at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 10:!5 AM.
