YORK Alyce Mae VanWart York, age 85 of Middletown, previously of Stratford and the widow of Joseph A. York, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at her home. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma VanWart and had been a life long Bridgeport and Stratford resident before moving to Middletown 10 months ago. She was a ward secretary for 20 years at Park City Hospital before her retirement. Alyce was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and crafts. She was a faithful member of Stratford United Methodist Church the past 30 years. Survivors include her beloved children, a son, Michael Delzell and his wife, Mary Ellen of Beaver Dams, N.Y.; a daughter, Renee Delzell of Danbury; her godchild, Sandra Bosco and her husband, Robert and their daughter, Sharon Tanaka of Portland. She was predeceased by her son, Charles Delzell of Danbury. Also survived by eight grandchildren, Russel R. Ashley, Dyan Rinaldi, John Gordon, Michael Delzell, Luke Delzell, Crystal Delzell, Dawn Groms and Christopher Delzell; eight great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday May 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Stratford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Koonae Lee , Pastor officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
