Alvin Lamar O'Quinn With great sadness the family announces the passing of our loving and devoted husband and father, Alvin Lamar O'Quinn, February 27, 2009. Funeral services will be Monday, March 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. EST at Calvary Baptist Church, 285 N. Magnolia St., Monticello, Florida. The family will receive friends Sunday March 1, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel, 485 E. Dogwood Street, Monticello (850-997-5612).Donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 285 N. Magnolia St, Monticello, Florida 32344 Lamar served in the U.S. Army during WWII, sailing to Japan on the Queen Elizabeth 1st in 1945. He was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent.His time spent at church was very rewarding to him and made him very happy. He was a well known and well liked mechanic. He worked for several local dealerships before becoming self-employed/operator of the Sinclair Service Station, and later owner of O'Quinn's Garage. He retired from the University of Florida Agriculture Research Center.He served with the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary for fifteen years and loved every minute of it. He was an avid fisherman. His special endearing quality was his wisdom and wit. He entertained family and friends with his story telling, jokes, and magical card tricks. He loved playing checkers and no one has ever beaten him at the Chinese version.He loved woodworking. His most valuable contributions were his kindness, his willingness to help others in time of need, and his dedication and commitment to his Family and Church. Mr. O'Quinn is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Vernice M. Henderson O'Quinn; a daughter, Mary Catherine Barton Miller (Ary); sons, A. Ray O'Quinn (Julie) and Jeremiah L.O'Quinn; grandsons, John Barton (Doreen), Ryan O. Miller (Jennifer), Shawn R. O'Quinn, Justin O'Quinn; granddaughters, C. Michelle Barton Roland (Jesse), Jacqueline O'Quinn, Jillian O'Quinn, and 4 great grandchildren.
