COTTONDALE Dr. Addie Louise Thomas, age 76, died Feb. 1, 2007 at her residence in Cottondale. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Thomas on Feb. 4, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.She is survived by her mother, Ledell Goodson, who will receive family, friends and associates immediately following the service.Dr. Thomas is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Merle D. Thomas, She will be buried with him at Arlington National Cemetery at 1 p.m. EST on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007.After receiving her BS and MA from her beloved University of Alabama, Dr. Thomas earned her doctorate at The University of Maryland. In her long career as an educator and linguist, she held many posts. In addition to teaching at Judson College, she organized an exchange between United States Department of Defense dependents and local German students. She also served as an independent contractor for Mercedes and was given the job of delivering an English language program to trainers from Germany.Because of Dr. Thomas' love for "all things natural," she was a "natural" addition to The University of Alabama Museum's Board of Regents, a group of leaders responsible for the well-being of The Museums.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The University of Alabama Museum of Natural History.
